LONDON (AFP) - Gerard Houllier is wasting his time thinking he might sign Michael Owen for Aston Villa, according to Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson.
Houllier revealed earlier in the week that he would welcome the opportunity to work with Owen again following their successful time together at Liverpool.

United prompted suggestions that the 30-year-old could be on his way to Villa Park in the January transfer window.
However, Red Devils boss Ferguson is not planning to let the forward leave and has reassured Owen he will feature enough this season.
"I'm not aware of Gerard wanting him but, anyway, he's wasting his time there," Ferguson told The People.
"I understand Michael's frustration, but Dimitar Berbatov has started the season so well.
"He'll start against Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup and he'll get enough football this season."
Owen has started only five Premier League games for United since moving to Old Trafford in 2009 and has made three substitute appearances this season after playing the opening 45 minutes of the Community Shield.
SYDNEY (AP)—Adelaide continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 1-1 away draw with Brisbane while Newcastle posted its first win, 2-0 over Perth, in weekend matches in Australian football’s A-League.
Central Coast moved up to second with a 0-0 draw with Gold Coast on Sunday— leaving it with only one loss from seven games—while league newcomers, the Melbourne Heart, improved to seventh with a 2-1 win over Wellington.
Newcastle’s first win from six games improved its championship position Chicago Bears jersey
and dropped Perth to third place in a tightening league. Six points separate the third and seventh-placed teams.
A brilliant volley by Michael Bridges gave Newcastle a 1-0 lead after 10 minutes but it wasn’t until Labinot Haliti scored in the 89th minute that the Jets’ first win was secure.
“It has been a long time coming,” Newcastle coach Branko Culina said. “I think we deserved a lot better than having to wait six weeks for a win but in the end I think the players have done themselves and the club proud.”
Culina said Newcastle’s confidence had been boosted by Bridges’ early goal.
“That is the name of the game—to score goals and win games,” he said. “We haven’t done that in the first five games so it makes it tough but I keep saying that we have been playing some really good football but it doesn’t get noticed when you don’t win games.”
Adelaide took the lead against Brisbane with a 28th-minute goal from Matthew Leckie but Brisbane equalized just seven minutes later through Thomas Broich. Both teams had chances to win but weren’t able to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
“I think it was a fair result. We had the best chances to win the game, especially a few good ones, and they had some chances, too,” Adelaide coach Rini Coolen said. “We’re still happy with the one point at the moment.”
Brisbane coach Ange Postecoglou said his team had improved after a slow first half.
“I wasn’t happy with how we started, but to the boys’ credit, we did really well in the second half,” he said. “We put them under more pressure and looked good going forward.”
The Melbourne Victory fought out a 0-0 draw with North Queensland New Orleans Saints jersey
on Saturday night, allowing the Victory to cling to fourth place in the league after playing three games in six days.
“It was a tough three matches and we have spoken about two aspects of physical fatigue and mental fatigue and I think the boys mentally really got themselves up,” Victory coach Ernie Merrick said.
